03/03/2007 -
New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Stephon Marbury scored 12 of his 34 points in
the fourth quarter, leading the New York Knicks over the Golden State Warriors, 106-97, at Madison Square Garden.
Quentin Richardson added 30 points and 12 boards for the Knicks, who have
alternated wins and losses over the last 11 games. Eddy Curry tallied 22
points and seven rebounds for New York, which has won seven straight at home.
Marbury keyed a 12-0 run late in the fourth quarter, scoring eight points to
help New York overcome a two-point deficit and cruise to the win.
Al Harrington had 26 points and eight boards to lead Golden State, which has
lost five straight overall. Monta Ellis added 17 points for the Warriors, who
have dropped seven in a row on the road, including the first three of their
current five-game road trip.
Down 92-90 a little more than midway through the fourth quarter, the Knicks
began their surge behind the shooting of Marbury. After he hit a free throw to
make it a one-point game, Mardy Collins went coast-to-coast and converted a
layup with just under four minutes left to give New York the lead for good,
93-92.
Marbury then drained a jumper with 3:32 left and followed that with a three-
pointer 34 seconds later for a six-point edge. He later finished the 12-0 run
with a pair of free throws with 1:10 remaining for a 102-92 cushion.
Collins ended with five points off the normally productive New York bench.
Steve Francis added seven points off the pine, as the duo combined for the
only New York bench points.
As a matter of fact, Marbury, Richardson and Curry combined for all but 20
points for the Knicks.
Mickael Pietrus and Kelenna Azubuike each had 13 points for the Warriors, who
trailed 26-18 after one quarter and 54-48 at halftime.
Golden State, which tied the game at 75 heading into the fourth quarter, shot
a blistering 11-of-23 from beyond the arc. The only problem was that the team
hit a season low 6-of-15 free throws.
New York, by contrast, hit 28-of-42 from the line and went 10-of-19 from
three.
