McGrady's strong play has to continue for Houston

Basketball Betting Lines

03/02/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - All-Star Tracy McGrady is having a great season for the Houston Rockets. The 6-8 McGrady is averaging 24.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and a team-best 6.1 assists in 48 games.

McGrady has scored more than 22 points in four straight games and is averaging 31.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists per contest in that span. He has scored in double-digits 44 times and has collected nine double-doubles during the campaign.

The Rockets continue to play without All-Star center Yao Ming, who leads the Rockets in scoring (25.9 ppg) and rebounding (9.4 rpg). He suffered a non displaced fracture in a bone under his right knee during a 98-93 loss on December 23rd to the Los Angeles Clippers. Houston is 19-11 without Yao, who is expected to return in mid-to-late March.

The Denver Nuggets attempt to extend their winning streak to three games when they welcome the Rockets on Friday to the Pepsi Center. It is the third and final meeting of the regular season between the squads. The teams split the previous two contests, as both clubs picked up a win on the road.

The Rockets have won two straight and three of their last four at Denver.

Houston enters Friday's game on a two-game losing streak. Rookie Andrea Bargnani scored 20 points to lead a balanced Toronto attack as the Raptors downed the Rockets, 106-90, on Wednesday at the Toyota Center.

McGrady returned after missing a game with flu-like symptoms to score 22 points in the loss to Toronto for the Rockets, who have dropped four of their last six games overall. Shane Battier netted 16, while Rafer Alston contributed 12 points in defeat.

The Rockets are a respectable 15-13 on the road this season. Houston will host the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday at the Toyota Center in the fourth and final meeting of the regular season between the clubs. The Rockets are 2-1 against the Spurs in the campaign. San Antonio has won three straight after losing its last two at Houston.

Houston is the fifth seed in the Western Conference playoff race, 2 1/2 games ahead of the sixth-seeded Lakers.

The Rockets are scheduled to play 13 of their final 25 games on the road.

FOOTBALL TRASH TALK

NFL Football Trash Talk

Trash talk has a place in every competitive endeavor (except baseball; those stirrup-wearers are too busy chewing on their sunflower seeds and their supplements to worry about what their opponents are doing).

Fantasy sports is no exception. Any intelligent discussion of the subject would probably start with a thesis statement or a definition of terms. Thankfully, this wont be an intelligent discussion.

Let me just say that I am happy to take a place in this space alongside my talented colleagues, even our commissioner. (You should see how she bleats like a demented paper boy about league fees on our fantasy site).

Trash talking, I would argue, is primarily about amusing your friends, their sheeplike demeanors and sloping foreheads notwithstanding. The best place I have found for football trash talking is at www.SportsAlarm.com.

Beyond the entertainment factor, though, I would recognize that the sophomoric ritual has one advantage, when properly applied. It magnifies your fantasy triumphs and mitigates your fantasy failures by transforming the eventual point total into an afterthought. Winning makes it seem like your opponent really is a truss-owning, lapel-pin-wearing nitwit. And in defeat, trash talk can be the air bag to break the fall from your hyperbolic heights. The plug-necked yahoos on your team, you can say, will be sacking groceries by the end of the season.

The best trash talk, in my view, is layered and nuanced. And it doesnt focus only on your opponents team. It picks apart your opponent. The idea is to create a shock-and-awe-scale blizzard of nonsense, and the goal is to make your opponent drop his hands from his keyboard in exasperation.

What team does your opponent root for? Accuse a Giants fan of having a Joe Namath pillowcase. Wheres your opponent from? Give a look of concern no matter his reply, then say, I'll try to type slower for you next time. Is your opponent into politics? Label everyone a tax-and-spend corporate shill.

Cap all that with a liberal application of irrelevance. For instance, dont just conclude by saying your opponent is a twerp who drafts like my grandmother. Say that your opponent is a sweater-wearing, eyebrow-plucking twerp who drafts his team about as well as Zsa Zsa Gabor gave acceptance speeches at the Oscars. By the time your foe makes sense of that, his starting running back will have had puppies.

But what about you? Hmm? Recall a memorable slam? Have a tried-and-true technique? Know someone who seems impervious to insult? Take a moment and tells us about it. Put together some (fit-for-publication) thoughts. You wont be too busy returning phone messages from your friends, Im sure, to reply.

In addition to the trash talking, the Sports Alarm has a huge gallery of high resolution pictures of beautiful women and models in bikinis. The most popular models are: Lindsay Lohan, Carrie Underwood, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Paris Hilton.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch

Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.

Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.

"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
